On May 24, 2013; President Barack Obama signed into “Public Law” the “Congressional Gold Metal” awarded to Carol Denise McNair, Cynthia Wesley, Carole Robertson, Addie Mae Collins, who became known as, the “4 Little Girls.”
Sunday; September 15, 1963 four little girls attended Sunday School Services, at the, 16th Street Church in Birmingham Alabama. The church also served as a meeting place for leaders of the civil rights movement and training for those who participated in non-violence civil rights demonstrations. With a sense of collective accomplishment, based on victories of school desegregation and increased job opportunities which resulted from a five-week civil rights campaign, the four little girls went into the basement after service. News of a church bombing grappled the Nation with shock, when smoke of the destroyed 16th Street Church cleared, hurdled together in a corner were the bodies of four little girls.
